Officials with District 10 of PennDOT are reminding people to celebrate the big game on Sunday responsibly.
Many may be heading to bars or to private parties to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow night, and many of those celebrations may include alcohol, which will impair brain functions and muscle coordination, leading to a greater chance of an accident or death on the roadways. Intoxication can also happen from drug use from illegal drugs to prescriptions to over the counter medicine.
In 2023, statewide police statistics showed there were over 40,000 DUI arrests made along with 28,000 drugged-driving arrests.
PennDOT advises people to game plan before going out tomorrow night. If you choose to drink, either designate a driver or arrange for a taxi or ride share service to get you home. If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 911. If someone you know is getting intoxicated, do not let them drive home. And if you are hosting a party, be sure to have plenty of food and non-alcoholic drink options available.
