Severe winter weather is about to hit Indiana County once again.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that will go into effect for most of Indiana County at 1:00 this afternoon and run until 1:00 tomorrow morning. During that time, forecasters anticipate a mix of precipitation, with up to an inch of snow and ice accumulations between a glazing and an inch. This will have an impact on roads, especially bridges and overpasses, as those roads will become slick and possibly hazardous.
The upper elevations in the southeast corner of the county will see an ice storm warning in effect for the same time period. Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Heather Zehr says that it’s because how the system is going to go through the area.
Less than an inch of snow is expected in that area, but forecasters expect up to three tenths of an inch of ice. Not only could the roads be a problem, but tree damage and power outages are also possible due to the ice buildup, and travel on any untreated roads could be impossible. In that area, the National Weather Service says motorists should use extreme caution or avoid traveling at all.
