Green Township residents are pushing back against a lawsuit filed by one of their supervisors, Doyle Freeman, who is suing the township for an increase in wages.
During Tuesday’s public meeting, community members voiced strong opposition to Freeman’s request, with many accusing him of neglecting his duties as road master and not putting the needs of the residents first. Additionally, Freeman was questioned for firing Justin Costello in September without consulting the other supervisors beforehand.
Freeman defended his argument for a higher wage by detailing his background in procuring grant funds.
Supervisor Mike Wilson said the township needs an official that will cooperate with residents and face issues head-on, rather than ignore them.
Auditor Deb Ferringer said she did not feel Freeman is doing enough to warrant another salary increase.
County Commissioner Mike Keith was in attendance, and he said the residents can only change their supervisors by voting.
Freeman first sued the county auditors last year, arguing that his salary did not fairly reflect his work quality. As a result, he received a $3.70 raise. He filed a second lawsuit this year for the same reason. He only received a 50-cent raise this year.
