Legislation to create an independent energy office for Pennsylvania passed the senate this week.
Senate Bill 187, sponsored by Republican Senator Gene Yaw, would model the office after the PA Independent Fiscal Office. Its goal would be to streamline the state’s approach to energy policy and, according to Yaw, “ensure a more cohesive strategy for managing our natural resources.”
Senator Joe Pittman was one of 27 senators who supported the measure. In comments on the senate floor, he said that this office would be independent of any influence.
The bill is now being considered by the State House of Representatives.
