IUP has received another quarter-million-dollar gift for the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The $250,000 comes from the Fairman Family Foundation of Dubois. Foundation president and Council of Trustees member Joyce Fairman said that they are fully supportive of the commitment the university has made to community health and wellness. She said that her daughter, a practicing dermatologist, has seen the effect of the lack of primary health care physicians has had in rural areas. The main goal of the College of Osteopathic Medicine is to increase the number of community physicians in rural and underserved areas of Pennsylvania and beyond.
IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said he was appreciative of the gift from the foundation, saying it is “a testament to the Fairmans’ faith of the life-changing possibilities of education in the form of opportunities for talented students committed to rural health,” and how the prospective college can have a positive impact.
With the gift from the Fairman Foundation, IUP has now received over $31 million in private and government funding for the initiative.
