On the first day of full-squad workouts in Bradenton, Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham launched a 400-foot home run off Braxton Ashcraft, and spring training was off and running. Pham is ticketed for left field in the Bucs lineup with Bryan Reynolds moving to right and Oneil Cruz in center field, giving the Bucs outfield a whole new look.
Manager Derek Shelton says Pham brings the skills and the attitude that the Pirates desperately need.
Pham says he chose the Pirates over the Padres because he likes the opportunity to play regularly, and he believes they can win.
Designated hitter Andrew McCutchen says the Pirates will turn it around by concentrating on doing the little things right.

The Angels will move often-injured Mike Trout from center field to right to try to keep him healthy. The three-time MVP played only 29 games last year and has played in over 100 games in a season just once since 2020.
Trouble may be brewing in Boston after the Red Sox signed Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman. All-Star Rafael Devers says third base is his position and he is not willing to become a designated hitter.
