Wednesday’s meeting of the White Township Supervisors primarily focused on the proposed emergency management authority. The majority of it featured County Commissioner Mike Keith fielding questions on the logistics of the process of how it would form.
Chairman Rich Gallo opened the meeting by reading a statement, reassuring that the township has a fiduciary responsibility to provide residents with cost-effective services in the best way possible. Gallo brought forward some grey areas that the authority could potentially create, such as extra layers of bureaucracy and the ability for other townships to foot their end of the cost.
Gallo said after the meeting he would like to see more options on the table before they agree to join the authority.
Keith said the costs presented would allow equal service across the county, and it could pose a problem down the road if everyone is not on the same page.
In other business, Supervisors approved a one-time contribution to the Indiana County Humane Society in the amount of $7,500. The township normally donates $2,500, but Supervisor George Lenz said the shelter is in “dire straits,” and Township Manager Chris Anderson said they budgeted a total of $10,000 in contribution money.
