Severe thunderstorms came through the area Sunday afternoon, leaving trees, limbs and utility lines down and many without power this morning.
Penelec reports that 1,980 of its customers are without electricity as of 6:00 AM due to the storm damage. Most of the outages are in the areas of Rayne and Green Townships, as more than 300 of its customers in each area are affected. Other areas that are still without power include parts of Black Lick, Brush Valley, Burrell, Canoe, Center, Cherryhill, East Mahoning, East Wheatfield, Grant, North Mahoning, Rayne, South Mahoning, West Mahoning and White Townships along with Blairsville, Clymer, Homer City, Indiana, and Marion Center Boroughs.
REA is also reporting that 1,651 of its members are without power, mainly in the same areas. While REA expects power to be restored by 10:00 at the latest, Penelec has not posted an estimated completion time.
Indiana County 911 has not given any details, but they did report a significant amount of dispatches yesterday afternoon for storm-related incidents. Conditions were ripe for a possible tornado in the county, but that has not been confirmed by the National Weather Service as of yet.
