Indiana Borough Police, State Police, the county Sheriff’s office and IUP police are sending out letters ahead of the unsanctioned “IUPatty’s” celebrations on Saturday.
The letter to the students says that they will see an increased police presence in the community over the next few weeks as the weather begins to warm up and outdoor gatherings are planned. It reiterates that the authorities are out to protect people, not work against them. To that end, the police agencies remind students that out-of-town visitors may not share the same community pride as they do, and that even the best intentions can be thwarted by a few troublemakers. The letter also says that neighbors cannot avoid being impacted by loud indoor and outdoor gatherings.
In a separate letter to the business community, authorities say they have not received information on any specific threat or unlawful activity, they want to find out where large gatherings are taking place, and ask businesses requested to host a large party to contact them.
