Amusement park company Herschend Entertainment yesterday announced the purchase of Palace Entertainment’s US-based theme parks, including Idlewild and Soakzone, Kennywood and Sandcastle.
Terms of the agreement were not announced in the joint statement made by Herschend and Parques Reunidos, but they said that there will be a smooth transition of ownership for the employees, guests and communities that the parks are in. The new owners are based out of Atlanta and hold several properties across the United States, including Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, Dollywood in Tennessee and Silver Dollar City in Missouri.
Kennywood will open next month, with Idlewild and Soakzone in Ligonier will start the season May 17th. Sandcastle will start seasonal operations on May 24th.
