The Penguins were cruising last night – for two periods – but they lost their edge in the third period, leading to a costly defeat to the New York Islanders. Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Penguins goals were scored by Joona Koppanen, who was recalled on an emergency basis earlier in the day and scored his first-ever NHL goal, and Sidney Crosby. Forward Emil Bemstrom missed the game for an undisclosed reason.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Islanders punched back at the Penguins in the third period, and his team did not respond.
Sidney Crosby agreed with his coach that the Penguins didn’t answer the bell in the third period.
