A Rural Valley woman charged with hindering apprehension in the investigation of her husband’s death waived her preliminary hearing in Armstrong County yesterday.
54-year-old Jennifer Lee Kimberly also faces charges of making false reports, abuse of a corpse, tampering with or fabricating evidence and obstruction. State police said that she confessed to knowing that her husband David was not missing when police were looking for him, even though she had filed the initial report. The accusation also states that she helped her son, Cody Weiland, lift the couch David was shot on and retrieved his shoes and clothing along with some knives, placing them all in a van. Troopers said she also lied to them when she said Weiland was not at home when they came to interview him. David was found dead October 12th in Jefferson County, and authorities say that the van found on Reefer Hollow Road was altered in an attempt to hide it.
Kimberly’s case now heads to Armstrong County Court, but a trial date has not been set. Weiland is facing charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and other crimes. His case was held for court, and his trial is scheduled to start April 7th.
