Four more brush fires were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total number this year in Indiana county to 36.
The first one of the day was at 2:42 PM on Cameron Road in Banks Township. Rossiter, Glen Campbell and Big Run fire departments were sent at the time.
Another brush fire was reported at 6:33 PM on Coal Run Road in Young Township. Fire crews from Indiana, Armstrong and Westmoreland Counties were called in to fight the blaze. Assistant Chief Dan Eckenrode said that the fire spread quickly, and they had to move the staging area to a different location.
No injuries were reported. At least an acre of ground was destroyed. Investigators are returning to the area today to determine the cause of the fire and exactly how much damage was done.
At 6:54, crews were called to Route 286 West in Center Township for a third brush fire. An eyewitness photo showed the brush fire on an embankment alongside the road. Aultman, Homer City, Coral-Graceton, Indiana and Blairsville fire departments were dispatched at the time.
The last call was on Saltsburg Road in Young Township at 7:09 PM. Blairsville fire crews responded.
