SOFTBALL
Marion Center blasted Northern Cambria, 15-0, on the day the Stingers dedicated their field to late coach Ed Peterson, who compiled 205 wins in 16 seasons. He passed away last July.
Macie Miller had three hits, including a solo home run, and drove in four runs for the Stingers. Madison Lipsie had three hits with a homer, and Kaily Anderson also homered. Brookelynn Hill, Cheyenne Silvis, and Anderson had two hits and Silvis earned the win in the circle.
Purchase Line doubled up Conemaugh Valley, 8-4. Brooklyn Walker and Kaitlyn Houser each had 2 hits for the Red Dragons. Houser and Bella Cessna each drove in 2 runs.
West Shamokin clubbed Portage, 13-2. Avery Elkin was 4-for-4 for the Wolves, Cameron Vandervort had 3 hits and Leah Mondi and Maddi Kiern each had 2. Kendall Stancovich had 2 hits for the Mustangs.
In the WPIAL, Armstrong scored 4 runs in the 5th to wipe out a 4-1 deficit and added two more in the 7th to beat Indiana, 7-4. Indiana had 7 hits by 7 different players.
BASEBALL
West Shamokin broke out with 8 runs in the 3rd inning and went on to a 11-4 win over Portage. Braden Talmadge had 2 hits, including a homer, and drove in 4 runs. Kash Julius also had 2 hits for the Wolves.
Northern Cambria bested Marion Center, 13-4. Brad Valeria, Nathan Fry, Parker Shutty, Shawn Gisler, and Ben Messina all had 2 hits for the Colts. Noah McCoy had 2 of Marion Center’s 5 hits.
Conemaugh Township clobbered River Valley, 17-2 in 4 innings. Freshman Gabrial Valentine had 3 hits and 5 RBIs and DJ Bambino had 2 hits for the Indians. Sammy Yanits had 2 hits, including a home run, for the Panthers.
Conemaugh Valley battered Purchase Line, 13-1. Logan Heinlein had 3 hits and 4 RBIs for the Blue Jays. Christian Moyer had 2 hits for the Red Dragons.
