The Rotary Club of Indiana has announced that it will formally dissolve this June.
Indiana’s branch of Rotary International is 105 years old. It was founded in 1920, just 15 years after the original Rotary club was founded in Chicago, Illinois. Since then, it has taken part in several charitable causes ranging from the AMBA Blood Screening to highway cleanups on the local level and the national mission of Rotary, International to end polio along with international projects to provide clean water.
Former president Bill Geiger said one of the reasons they are shutting down is declining membership.
Audio PlayerWhile Rotary is dissolving, its members have expressed an interest in joining Mid-day Rotary and other organizations or forming a more flexible volunteer network to carry out the spirit of the group’s mission. Club leaders are also working on making sure the resources and funds will be allocated to ongoing community programs and projects before they officially disband. Applications for these funds will be on the Indiana Rotary website in early April.
