A status conference and a motion to exclude evidence in the murder trial of a New Florence woman were moved on Friday to May 12th.
51-year-old Melissa Fox-Beacom is charged in the shooting death of her mother, 71-year-old Alice Robson, whose body was found buried beneath the back porch of her home along Furnace Lane outside of New Florence in December 2023. Fox-Beacom is accused of arranging the killing, which was allegedly carried out by Matthew Bates and Robert Jack, both of whom are 19 and have status conferences scheduled in their consolidated cases on April 14th.
The murder of Robson was allegedly a result of a dispute involving a special needs child of whom Robson and her husband had custody. The evidence the defense wants to exclude is the prosecution’s contention, outlined in a court filing in January, that Fox-Beacom had a history of physically abusing her mother and “engaged in violence and threats of violence towards her,” including threatening to kill her.
