The Pirates play the Rays at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa tonight. The Rays are playing this season at the spring training home of the Yankees after their stadium was damaged in last fall’s hurricane. Carmen Mlodzinski makes his debut as a Pirates starter against the Rays’ Drew Rasmussen. 6:40 airtime on WCCS.
Second baseman Nick Gonzalez will have a CT scan on his fractured ankle today. Cherington said initial X-rays did not show a broken ankle when the injury occurred in spring training, but after Gonzalez left Thursday’s opening game, new X-rays showed the non-displaced fracture.
