For tonight’s second game of the series, the Pirates will use an opener in a bullpen game. They’ve not announced the starter. The Rays counter with former Pirates first round draft pick Shane Baz, who they traded to the Rays in the disastrous Chris Archer trade in 2018. The Pirates swapped Baz, Austin Meadows, and Tyler Glasnow for Archer, who was 6-12 with a 4.92 ERA in his brief time in Pittsburgh.
It’s a 6:40 airtime, 7:05 of first pitch from Tampa on WCCS.
The Pirates yesterday acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the Mets for cash considerations. He was designated for assignment on March 27th, after the Mets got him from the Cubs for cash. He’d been DFA’d by Chicago before that. He’s appeared in 21 Major League games, all with the Cubs, batting .286 with two homers, two doubles, and eight RBIs. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates moved pitcher Jared Jones to the 60-day injured list.
