Homer City Redevelopment has announced that the facility will go in at the site of the former Homer City Generating Station. The 4.5-gigawatt plant is expected to double the power output of the original coal facility. It will rely on natural gas from the Marcellus Shale natural gas field that is under parts of Pennsylvania and other states. The plant is expected to provide power to 13 states and Washington, DC through PJM and a New York Independent System Operator along with a giant AI data center campus on-site.
Andrew Shannahan with Knighthead Capital Management said the site was just a perfect fit for them.
