Indiana Regional Medical Center and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education hosted a flag raising today in honor of National Donate Life Month.
Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Wendy Haislip opened the ceremony, saying that the flag was first introduced in 2006, and has since become a symbol of unity, remembrance and inspiration.
Two people shared their stories about how organ donation has saved the lives of people that they love. Shawna Brink, an IUP nursing student, was one of them. Both of her parents are organ recipients, and their lives depended on it. Brinks says that those who donate are heroes.
The event concluded with the raising of the flag. You can find the full video of the ceremony on the WCCS Facebook page.
