As the deadline for RealID gets closer, Pennsylvania’s Drivers License Centers will be open additional days this month to get people ready to upgrade their ID’s.
PennDOT announced yesterday that 57 drivers license centers, including ones in Indiana, Westmoreland and Jefferson counties will be open on Mondays throughout the month of April and on May 5th in an effort to ease lines that have been forming as of late to scan documents for the RealID process. For most of the centers in our area, people will be able to have their documents scanned and a new license will be issued through the mail within 15 business days. Some locations will be able to issue a new RealID-upgraded license or ID card on the same day. The full list of locations that will be open Mondays is on PennDOT’s website.
A RealID or passport will be needed to board a domestic commercial flight in the United States, enter a military base or any federal facility that requires an ID after the May 7th deadline.
To upgrade your state-issued identification you will need to bring to the License Center some proof of identity, like a state issued birth certificate or valid US Passport or passport card; proof of your social security number; two proofs of your current PA physical address like a driver’s license, a vehicle registration or utility bill; and proof of any legal name changes.
