A New Kensington man is the latest to be sentenced in connection with the dismantling of a large-scale drug trafficking organization in 2023.
U.S. District Judge Marilyn Horan yesterday ordered 48-year-old Keith Hurst to serve 72 months in prison along with four years of supervised release for a conviction on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was involved in a drug ring that ran through Indiana and Westmoreland counties from August of 2022 to March of 2023. He allegedly worked with others to circulate 500 grams or more of cocaine in the western Pennsylvania region. Hurst was intercepted on a federal wire tap obtaining quantities of cocaine.
He was one of 57 individuals that were charged after “Operation Lake Effect” took down an operation that was sending illegal drugs from Arizona to Ohio and Pennsylvania.
