IUP is starting work on razing six buildings in the Punxsutawney area as part of the Academy of Culinary Arts long-range facilities plan.
The six buildings are all located in the 100 block of West Mahoning Street, and the university plans on to use the new buildings adjacent to the Fairman Centre in downtown Punxsutawney for new educational and multipurpose facilities. The Fairman Center was dedicated in 2009.
Abatement of asbestos and other material is underway, and is expected to wrap up in the fall. No word yet on when the facilities will be ready for classes.
