Pirates President Travis Williams took responsibility for the team removing Roberto Clemente’s name from the right field wall and replacing it with an ad for a beverage company. He called it “an oversight” not to keep the Clemente logo and “an honest mistake.” Roberto Clemente Jr.’s one-word response to a social media post pointing out the move was “Wow…”, and it had 1.7 million impressions. Williams said the Clemente logo will be returned to the wall.
On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, the Pirates’ GM acknowledged the stumbling start to the season, but said the current roster is capable of turning it around.

Reliever David Bednar was sent to Indianapolis last week. Cherington says the Pirates hope Bednar can find his game and return to Pittsburgh in the closer’s role.

Bednar worked a scoreless inning and struck out one in his first appearance with Indy yesterday.
Colin Holderman was placed on the 15-day injured list yesterday with a bad knee. Chase Shugart, an off-season acquisition from the Red Sox, was called up from Indy to replace him.
The Pirates begins a three-game series with the Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. Because of NCAA championship basketball, the game will not be broadcast on WCCS.
