Last month’s fatal crash at the intersection of 9th and Philadelphia Streets was discussed at Monday night’s Indiana Borough Council Meeting.
Both John and Loretta Reeger were killed from injuries suffered when they were hit by a box truck on March 11th as they were in the crosswalk. John died that day, while Loretta died in a hospital in Cambria County a few days later. Several members of the public spoke to give their suggestions to remedy the problem, including Donna Syster of Shelocta, who said that she would like to see the pedestrian walk signal and the traffic green light no longer in sync.
Audio PlayerTwo representatives from PennDOT District 10 were on hand to listen to the public’s suggestions. Courtney E. Snyder, a maintenance service engineer with the state agency, said they will take the public’s feedback back to PennDOT and will continue to work with the borough on the problem.
Audio PlayerIndiana Borough Manager Nicole Sipos said that the borough will also work on improving traffic and pedestrian safety.
Audio PlayerCouncil also adopted a resolution for a DCNR grant seeking funds for the McGregor Park Expansion and Rehabilitation Project and approved a 10-year lease for the Indiana Free Library.
