The Penns Manor School Board will meet tonight and the union representing teachers’ aides, secretaries, cafeteria staff, nurses, and others will be on hand to urge the school board to invest in support staff.
The Penns Manor Education Support Professionals say that they have been negotiating with the school board for over a year for a new contract. The union claims that they are stretched thin with 10 vacancies that need to be filled, and a majority of its membership make less than $14 an hour. They also say they are ready to continue to negotiate in good faith. On the proposed agenda for tonight, the negotiations committee will have an update, but there are no motions on the agenda for a new contract.
Also on the proposed agenda tonight is the appointment of Erika Seich, who will fill the vacancy on the board from the retirement of Lisa Wolff. Her resignation was accepted last month. Seich will represent region 1 on the board, which encompasses Clymer Borough.
The meeting starts at 7:00 in the district boardroom.
