BASEBALL
Indiana is 7-0 after a 6-1 win over Elizabeth Forward. Sully Van Hoose struck out four over four shutout innings for the Indians and tripled and drove in two runs.
Brayden Rado, Dom Shimko, and Noah Turk all had three hits and Turk struck out eight in a complete game on the mound as Homer-Center knocked off Purchase Line,13-3. The Wildcats scored three runs in each of the first three innings and four in the fourth. Matthew Johnston had two hits for the Red Dragons. The same two teams play again today at Homer-Center.
Freshman Brendan James threw a complete game and struck out eleven, giving up five hits and a walk in a 6-1 win over Conemaugh Valley. James also led the Lions with three of their fourteen hits. Ryan Felix, Cole McGinnis, Dmitri Worthington, and Peyton McElwee all had two hits for United, which will play Bishop McCort tonight at Point Stadium in the Gene Shultz Memorial Tournament.
Northern Cambria is 7-0 after tripping up Cambria Heights, 5-1. Shane Gisler, Shawn Gisler, and Brad Valeria all had two hits for the Colts. Caleb Dolney threw six innings and struck out sixteen.
SOFTBALL
Knoch battered Indiana, 16-1. Kylee Cass homered for the Indians’ only run.
Purchase Line fell behind 3-0 but kicked in the offense with three runs in the first two innings, a run apiece in the next two, and four runs each in the fifth and sixth to beat Homer-Center, 16-6. Kaitlyn Houser hit for the cycle and had four hits overall, driving in six. Brooklynn Walker had three hits, and Lillian Stauffer and Riley Mahaffey each had two for the Red Dragons. Homer-Center had just two hits, doubles by Gigi Palmer and Ava King.
A nine-run second inning propelled Conemaugh Valley to an 11-1 win over United.
Cambria Heights pummeled Northern Cambria, 12-2, powered by a nine-run third inning. Brea Kountz had four hits for the Highlanders. Megan Wholaver had three, and Lakin Pierce, Ellie Bender, and Margaret Elias all had two. Alyssa Yahner had two hits for the Lady Colts.
