Because of the bad weather forecast this morning, the continued demolition of the former Homer City Generating Station has been postponed until tomorrow morning.
Charges will be set off around 7:30 in the morning tomorrow, weather permitting, to bring down the remaining portion of one smokestack. It’s expected to be a less dramatic event than the demolition on March 22nd that brought down the other stacks and cooling towers, but similar safety precautions will be put in place. This includes the closing of all access points to the site, including roads, hiking trails and ATV paths. For safety reasons, the public cannot be accommodated on the property or in close proximity, and no viewing areas will be set up by Homer City Redevelopment.
While the implosion of the stack is now set for tomorrow morning, that time could change due to weather conditions. If we receive any other changes to the schedule from Homer City Redevelopment, we will pass it along to you.
