Another hearing is scheduled tomorrow in Kevin Murphy’s appeal of his triple murder conviction. The Saltsburg man was found guilty in 2014 of the 2009 killing of his mother, sister, and aunt at the family’s glass business in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County.
Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio last month granted Murphy the right to move forward with his claim that the timeline does not work because he was at the family farm feeding cattle when the shootings occurred. His attorneys contend that there are at least two other suspects: convicted murderer Jack Edmunson, who shot to death Tunnelton gun shop owner Frank Petro on New Year’s Eve 2013; and Susan McGuire, an Apollo woman who was romantically linked with Murphy and who took over the glass business upon his arrest. The appeal also claims numerous mistakes by both the trial judge and the original defense attorneys, and juror misconduct.
