Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went unchanged in the month of March.
The seasonally-adjusted rate announced today by the state department of Labor and Industry was 3.8% for last month. That makes it two-tenths of a percentage point higher than March of 2024. By Comparison, the national unemployment rate is 4.2, an increase of a tenth of a percentage point.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor work force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, was up by 3000 over the month to 6,542,000 in March. Resident unemployment drove the increase there. The total number of non-farm jobs increased by 20,900 in March to 6,217,700. Jobs increased in seven of the 11 industry super sectors, with the biggest swings seen in the Education & Health and Services and Leisure & Hospitality areas. Each sector added 6500 jobs over the month.
