A program that helps improve the health of the community was honored in Harrisburg yesterday with a Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence.
The Indiana County Office of Planning and Development was recognized for the Indiana County Decathalon. The program aims to combat not only chronic diseases, but also social isolation with the guided walks scheduled from January to June. 2025 marks the 9th year of the program. On top of the health benefits, participants will also explore areas of local culture, services and natural resources on different routes for all skill levels. In 2024, there were 300 recorded participants.
The next Walkworks Decathalon event is set for April 25th at 2:00 PM in Vintondale for a walk at the Blacklick Creek Water Treatment System.
