A comeback effort by the Pirates came up short last night against the Cleveland Guardians. Joe Block reports.
Audio PlayerThe Pirates and the Guardians are back in action this afternoon in game two of the three-game set. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates against Ben Lively. You can hear the game starting at 3:40 on WCCS.
Meanwhile, Pirates GM Ben Cherington talked about the possible returns of reliever David Bednar and Colin Holderman. Cherington said that the two are needed and when they are ready they will get the callup. Bednar was sent down to AAA Indianapolis after his relief efforts at the start of the season failed to preserve any advantage the Pirates had. Since his demotion, he has pitched well and is working on two parts of his arsenal, the splitter and the curve. Meanwhile, Holderman is nearing a return from a right knee sprain and is expected to go on a rehab stint in the next few days.
