The project puts trained student supporters throughout the school that can serve as a resource for their peers and promote mental health awareness, self-care strategies and open discussions. These students serve as a resource for other kids that may be going through mental health challenges. The group also hosts events throughout the year like therapy dog visits and holiday-related activities. The project’s members are easily identifiable by the green bandana tied to their backpacks.
With the new national affiliation, the Indiana Senior High group can now access many resources, including QPR suicide prevention training, which will allow those trained to guide people in crisis towards professional help. It will also provide a dedicated website featuring Indiana-based materials, resources, mission statement and contact information.
The national affiliation was made possible by donations and support from the Indiana Area Education Foundation, District Attorney Robert Manzi and others.
