The Indiana County Commissioners this morning approved resolutions to file for four Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program Grants. One of them will go toward the new Homer City Natural Gas facility.
The request is for $5 million to represent partial funding with the construction of a natural gas pipeline at the facility. Natural gas will be the fuel for the turbines at the facility, which is expected to be the largest of its kind. Construction at the facility is expected to start later this year.
Another RACP request is for $1.75 million for partial funding for interior and exterior improvements at the old courthouse building at 601 Philadelphia Street and the Welcome Center at the Bank property across the street. $500,000 of that money will go to the welcome center, and the rest will go towards the old courthouse property, including the former county jail and sheriff’s building. Commissioner Mike Keith said they are responsible for building that now houses some corporate offices of First Commonwealth Bank.
Audio PlayerHe also acknowledged First Commonwealth’s contributions toward the building’s upkeep.
The other grant applications are $600,000 for the Dixonville Industrial Building Project and the second phase of expansion and improvements at the YMCA of Indiana County.
