Indiana County 911 sent the Marion Center, Perry Township, Plumville and Rossiter fire departments, the RIG team and Punxsutawney EMS to the intersection of Route 119 and Leasure Road in Marchand. Gavin Misko of the Marion Center fire department said that a 20 by 30 foot garage was engulfed in flames when they arrived, and were notified by Indiana county EMA officials that the fire had spread to a nearby camper and pickup truck and was endangering a house. Crews were able to put the fire out, but the garage and vehicles were a total loss. The estimated damage is around $100,000.
Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours. No injuries were reported. Officials believe a wood burner was the cause of the fire, but they have called the State Police Fire Marshals in to investigate.
Along with the aforementioned departments, Central and Lindsey fire departments from Punxsutawney provided additional manpower on-scene while Rural Valley, Clymer and Big Run fire departments were sent in for standby detail.
