BASEBALL
Homer-Center scored five runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings and beat Purchase Line, 15-1. The Wildcats drew 10 walks. Collin Dunn doubled twice and earned the win in his first start. Brayden Rado and Drew Fisher each had two hits and Rado had four RBIs.
Northern Cambria scored 17 runs in the second inning, closing out United, 17-1, in three.
West Shamokin’s Luke McCullough spun a three-hitter, striking out eight in a 7-0 win over Marion Center. Kash Julius and Ben McConnell each had two hits to lead the Wolves.
Conemaugh Township pulled away from Portage and beat the Mustangs, 13-2. For the Indians, Brennan Lohr had three hits and Colin Dinyar had two, including a home run. Greyson Studer and Reed Conn each had two hits. Portage was led by Jonah Irvin’s three hits and Jordan Klein’s two.
SOFTBALL
In the first of back-to-back games between the two top teams in the Heritage Conference West, Marion Center edged West Shamokin, 4-3. Using the long ball, the Stingers scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead, then held off a Wolves rally in the seventh. Kailey Anderson hit two home runs and drove in three runs, Gracelynn Silvis homered, and Cheyenne Silvis got the win in the circle, striking out five. The Wolves’ Avery Elkin had two hits, including a two-run home run, and Malena Stewart had two hits. The Stingers are 9-0 in the conference and the Wolves are now 8-1, and they’ll play each other again at West Shamokin tomorrow.
Homer-Center walked off Purchase Line, 5-4, on a two-run single by Ava King in the bottom of the seventh. Melanie George and Madison Brendlinger each had two hits for the Wildcats while Alorra Phillips had three hits and drove in three for the Red Dragons, and Rylee Adams had two hits.
Alli Rhea homered and had two hits and four RBIs as Penns Manor topped Portage, 9-3. Sydney Luther and Sydney Hrubochak each had two hits for the Comets.
Northern Cambria crushed United, 17-2. Alexa Fox had two hits for the Colts while the Lions struggled, issuing fourteen walks and committing four errors.
