Today is National Drug Take Back day and there are two opportunities for people to get rid of medicine that is no longer necessary.
The Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission and the Indiana County Sheriff’s office will host a drug takeback event today at Diamond Drug at 670 Philadelphia Street from 10 AM to 2 PM. Unwanted or expired medicine will be accepted during that time no questions asked. Needles or sharps will not be accepted. Drugs collected will be taken to safe disposal. A similar event is also planned for the same time frame at the Blairsivlle Borough Police Department. They will also offer free naloxone for those who need it.
The proper disposal of drugs will prevent them from being abused by others. Last April, DEA drug takeback day saw over 4800 collection sites across the nation bring in over 335 tons of drugs.
