BASEBALL & SOFTBALL
We are two weeks away from the Heritage Conference baseball and softball championships and the races are red-hot heading down the stretch.
In baseball, West Shamokin is 8-1 and Homer-Center is 10-2 in the West, and they play each other on Tuesday and Thursday. The first game tomorrow will be on Renda Digital TV, with first pitch at 4:30. West Shamokin plays at Purchase Line today. Homer-Center won the 400th game in school history on Saturday over Summit Academy.
In the Heritage Conference East, it’s coming down to Northern Cambria and Conemaugh Township. The Colts are 12-0 and the Indians are 8-1, and they will play each other at Conemaugh Township on Tuesday and at Northern Cambria on Thursday.
The softball races are also tight. In the West, Marion Center is 10-1. West Shamokin is 9-1. Penns Manor, which got off to a late start due to the basketball playoffs, is 5-1. In the East, Cambria Heights is in the driver’s seat with a two-game edge over Conemaugh Valley but a tough week ahead: Penns Manor today, two against Conemaugh Valley on Tuesday and Thursday, and West Shamokin on Friday.
TRACK & FIELD
In track & field, United is running away – literally – with the boys race, at 9-0, with Homer-Center at 6-1 and Marion Center at 6-2.
Cambria Heights is 8-0 in the girls race, ahead of 7-2 United, 6-2 River Valley, and 5-1 Conemaugh Township.
