The Pittsburgh Penguins announced this morning that the team and head coach Mike Sullivan have agreed to part ways.
Sullivan was called up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton baby pens in the middle of the 2015-2016 season and helped the team win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Pens General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas said in a statement that the decision was not taken lightly but “as we continue to navigate the Penguins through this transitional period, we felt it was the best course forward for all involved.”
Sullivan leaves as the all-time wins leader with 409 and just the 14th coach to have over 400 wins with one team. A thorough search for the next Penguins head coach will begin immediately.
