Indiana Borough Police and Mayor Joseph Trimarchi held a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday for a new four-footed member of the police department.

Comfort K-9 Officer Axel was officially sworn in as a member of the force at ceremonies held today at the Indiana Junior High School. His mission will be to provide comfort to victims of crime and to officers as part of the Comfort K-9 program. Axel’s partner, Officer Jeffrey Hoag said that this was the culmination of Axel’s training, which started last March.
Also during the ceremonies today, Police Chief Justin Schawl honored Trimarchi with a Chief’s Letter of Commendation thanking him for his service during his time as mayor. Trimarchi leaves office at the end of the year.
