The U.S. News & World Report 2024 Healthiest Communities rankings give Indiana County an overall score of 49 out of 100, based on its performance in 92 categories of health and health-related metrics. The state average is 52 and the nation’s average is 48.
Indiana County is tied with five others in Pennsylvania when measured against all 67 counties, with 44 ahead of it. The top five are Montgomery (79), Chester (77), Cumberland (75), Bucks (72), and Butler (70) counties. The most unhealthy counties in the state are Fayette (39), Philadelphia (42), Luzerne (46), Jefferson (47) and a three-way tie between Clearfield, Carbon, and Sullivan (48). In addition to the unhealthy scores attributed to Clearfield and Jefferson counties, neighboring Armstrong scored a 55, Cambria a 51, and Westmoreland a 64.

The report places Indiana County’s life expectancy at 76.1 years. The national average is 75.8.
