Kathryn Susan Farabaugh (Bender), 90, of Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6th, at The Gardens at Indiana Memory Care Facility.
Kathryn was born December 13,1933 to parents Steve and Zuzanna (Mrug) Bender in Nanty-Glo, PA, Cambria County. She was raised with a strong Byzantine Catholic faith.
Kathryn was a graduate of Nanty-Glo Vintondale High School. After graduation, Kathryn worked in the Registrar of Wills Office at the Cambria County Courthouse. During this time, she met the love of her life (James) at a dance at the Slovak Club in Nanty-Glo. From there Duke and Toots were inseparable, having married September 1, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Church, Cameron’s Bottom, PA.
Kathryn and Jim were life members of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church (Indiana, PA) in its original location on Fourth Street. In 1976, they served as contributors to the new church in its current location overlooking Indiana. Kathryn was a member of Catholic Daughters of America (CDA); Birthright, where she devoted her time and passion for helping expectant mothers in need; and various other volunteer organizations associated with the Church.
Kathryn, the best mother a child could ask for, was very devoted to her family, friends and community. She especially enjoyed cooking and doting over her numerous grandchildren.
Kathryn is survived by her three children, Lisa Farabaugh of Indiana, PA, Ann Zampolin (Ron) of Briarcliff Manor, NY; and David Farabaugh (Audra) of Homer City, PA, seven grandchildren (Ron, Katherine, Matthew, and Daniel Zampolin, and William, Luke and Amelia Farabaugh), sister-in-law, Florence Bender (Steve) of Nanty Glo, several brothers-in-laws/sisters-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, James, her parents, and her siblings Steve Jr., Joseph and Mary.
Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 4-8 PM at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, 898 Old Hwy N., Indiana, PA 15701. The Rosary will be read by the Catholic Daughters of America at 3:30 PM and a Prayer service will be held at 4:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, 200 Clairvaux Dr., Indiana, PA 15701. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Indiana.
