Thursday turned into a busy day for Indiana County’s first responders.
Among the calls yesterday was a brush fire on Route 422 west in Armstrong Township. Indiana Fire Association was dispatched at 1:32 PM. Indiana fire officials say that they were on scene for a vehicle accident near North East Locators when a flare set some of the vegetation on fire. As crews were already on-scene, the fire was put out quickly. Damage was minimal.
A fuel spill required multiple fire departments to be dispatched in Saltsburg borough. The spill was first reported on Salt Street at 1:25 PM. Saltsburg firefighters were initially called out. They would be joined by the Indiana County HAZMAT team about a half-hour later and the Tunnelton fire department at 2:09 PM.
And a structure fire was reported on Hancock Street in Clymer at 9:09 PM. Clymer, Commodore and Cherryhill Township fire departments were called to the scene along with Cambria Township fire department and the Indiana County HAZMAT team. Clymer fire officials said that an elderly resident fell while she was cooking, and the burned food caused a lot of smoke in the structure. She was rescued by EMT’s on scene. Crews were able to ventilate the house and the woman was able to return home. No injuries were reported.
