Flu cases in Indiana County over the last week continued to increase.
The PA Department of Health reports that Indiana County now has 136 reported cases of influenza as of the start of the New Year. That is an increase of 43 cases of flu in a week’s time. 35 new cases of Type A flu have been reported in Indiana County, bringing that total to 106, while eight new cases of Type B flu were reported, bringing the season total to 30.
Across the state, the total flu case total is now 22,792, which represents a statewide increase of 5,457 cases. 5,023 new cases of type A flu were reported, bringing the total to 21,116, and a total of 1664 cases of type B flu were reported. 432 of those cases were new over the last week.
So far, 12 people across Pennsylvania died from the flu. Emergency Department visits associated with influenza-like illness has increased slightly than last week and higher than this same week last year.
