Autumn is still in its early phases, but there are some areas in Pennsylvania where the fall foliage is at peak color.
Somerset County in the southwest region and Wayne County in the northeast are listed at “peak color,” according to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Nine other counties are in the “approaching peak color,” meaning that peak color is about a week away. Those counties include Potter, Tioga, Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Pike and Monroe counties in the northeast corner of the state, and nearby Clearfield County.
The rest of the state, including Indiana County, is in the “starting to change” category, meaning that leaves will be at peak color in about two to three weeks.
The weekly report states that foresters in Gallitzin State Forest, which serves Indiana, Blair and Cambria Counties, reports minimal change, and the forests are still in the early stages of transition.
