The Chevy Chase Community Center Board of Directors has announced that the interim executive director has been hired as the full-time executive director.
Jenny Rairigh has served as the interim executive director since November 6th of last year, after former executive director Brandi Ports stepped down in the wake of the fatal shooting in October of 2023. Rairigh has been a longtime volunteer with the community center and with other organizations including Calvary Presbyterian Church, Downtown Indiana, Inc., and charities that fight food insecurities and poverty.
Since she became the interim executive director, Rairigh said that the number of people served a hot meal every weekday increased significantly and they were able to expand their lunch program to Fridays, and The number of people who are assisted through the emergency food program has tripled.
In a statement, Chevy Chase Board President Debra Dotts Patterson said that they were pleased with Rairigh’s performance, and that she had “built cooperative relationships with volunteers, donors, organizations and staff to respond to the increases in volume of families served and leads a team ready to respond to challenges.” She also said that volunteer participation is up and services have increased to meet the need.
