A bill is on its way to the Governor that would close a loophole concerning artificial intelligence images of minors and child sexual abuse materials.
Senate Bill 1213 was introduced earlier this year concerning the sharing intimate images without consent. Currently, the practice is illegal but the law does not have anything set up for the use of AI and deepfake images. The bill is not only designed to address the issue but will also prohibit AI for being used to create child sexual abuse material.
An example cited by the Senate happened in Lancaster County in August, where AI-generated nude photos used the faces of over 20 female teenage students. In some cases, charges cannot be filed because the loophole.
The bill passed the State Senate in June, was amended by the State House, and was given final passage in the Senate earlier this week.
