A Bolivar man was ordered yesterday to serve 10 to 20 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl.
60-year-old Jerry Boring was convicted in April by a Westmoreland County Jury of charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault connected with incidents that started in 2017 when the victim was 10 years old. He denied the allegations during the trial and had to be subdued just before the verdict was read as he tried to throw himself out of the second-story window of the courthouse.
County judge Meghan Billik-Defazio ordered Boring to serve a mandatory prison sentence, while prosecutors had argued for consecutive sentences that meant he would have spent at least 15 years in prison. He was also ordered to register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life.
