At yesterday’s Emerging Women Leaders Luncheon at the Indiana Country Club, Jennifer Brader Rairigh was named the 44th recipient of the ATHENA Award, Nicole Rice received the ATHENA Young Professional Award, and United High School student Ashlynn Denise Brendlinger was awarded the $5,000 Spadafora Family ATHENA Scholarship.

Rairigh is the recently-named director of the Chevy Chase Community Center. She has been director of Camp Courage, a camp for grieving children, and has been involved with the American Red Cross, Downtown Indiana, an online Facebook group she formed came “Food 9-1-1” to help people with food insecurity, and Meals on Wheels, along with many other service groups.
Rice is IUP’s assistant dean for academic affairs and educator preparation. She is an active volunteer for IUP committees and groups, including reinstating the Student Advisory Council for the College. She is a member of IUP’s CARE Team, which identifies and supports students who need intervention or services to improve academics or health, and is involved in several grant programs, including one supporting underrepresented teacher candidates through mentorship.
Brendlinger is vice president of United’s student council, is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member and president of the United High School ATHENA Club for two years. She has volunteered for her school’s kindergarten Christmas party, served lunches at a senior center, helped with food drives, volunteered with the United High School Literary Night and was a volunteer with the Veteran’s Ghost Town trail marathon.
The luncheon yesterday at the Indiana Country Club was attended by 160 people, sixty of whom are members of the ATHENA Clubs at Marion Center and United, and of the Indiana Senior High Leadership Seminar.
