A new Deer Management Assistance Program unit has been created in Armstrong County to help the Pennsylvania Game Commission fight Chronic Wasting Disease.
500 DMAP antlerless deer permits have been made available for hunters for the unit near Ford City. The new unit comprises about 25,000 acres including all or parts of Ford City, Ford Cliff and Manorville boroughs and Bethel, Burrell, Kittanning and Manor townships. The game commission is encouraging hunters take advantage of the program as it will be a benefit for both hunters and the state. Hunters will be able to get their deer tested for chronic wasting disease and that will give the state an idea as to where the disease is spreading, and it will also give hunters important information before they decide whether or not to consume the venison from the deer they harvest.
